PDB Editor (“the App”)

This Privacy Policy describes how PDB Editor handles information when you use the App. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

Summary

PDB Editor is designed to work primarily on your device. The App does not require you to create an account. We do not sell your personal information. The App may access the network to download structure files you request, use the camera or photo library only when you choose those features, and store a small amount of data locally on your device (such as favorites).

Information the App processes

• Structure files (PDB). When you open a file from your device or enter a public identifier (for example, a PDB ID), the App loads and displays that data on your device. If you use download-by-ID, the App retrieves the corresponding file from a public repository (see “Third-party services” below).
• Favorites. If you save favorites, those entries are stored locally on your device (for example, using on-device storage such as UserDefaults). They are not transmitted to us by the App.
• Camera. If you enable features that use the camera (such as a live camera background), video from the camera is used on your device to render the experience. The App does not upload your camera feed to our servers (we do not operate account-based servers for this App).
• Photos library. If you choose an image from your photo library (for example, as a background), the App uses that image on your device. It is not uploaded to us by the App.
• Crash or diagnostic data. Unless you or your device vendor separately enable Apple’s standard crash reporting or analytics outside this policy, this App does not include a built-in third-party analytics SDK as part of the open-source-style description here. Any crash data collected by Apple is subject to Apple’s policies and your device settings.

Network and third-party services

When you download a structure by identifier, the App may request files from public structural biology resources (for example, the RCSB PDB file service). Those requests are made to provide the content you asked for. Those services may log standard technical information (such as IP address, timestamps, or request metadata) under their own policies, which are outside our control.

How we use information

Information processed by the App is used only to provide App functionality on your device: displaying molecular structures, optional backgrounds, animations, and exports you initiate.

Data retention and deletion

Data stored locally on your device remains until you remove it (for example, by clearing App data, deleting favorites within the App, or uninstalling the App). Uninstalling the App typically removes locally stored App data from your device, subject to how your operating system manages app data.

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information in a way that concerns you, contact us using the information below.

Your choices

• You can deny or revoke camera or photo access in iOS Settings for PDB Editor.
• You can avoid network downloads by not using features that fetch files by identifier, and by opening only local files you supply.

International users

If you use the App outside your home country, your information may be processed in the country where your device is located and, when you request downloads from public repositories, by those services in accordance with their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
