Privacy Policy

Otto · Last updated: October 24, 2026

This policy describes how the Otto mobile application and its Audio Unit (AUv3) instrument extension (“Otto,” “the app”), a generative synthesizer, handle information when you use them on your iPhone or iPad. Otto is designed to work without an account and to keep your projects on your iPhone or iPad.

Who we are

Otto is provided by Los Palmos LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company (“Los Palmos,” “we,” “us”). For questions about this policy, contact us at admin@lospalmos.org.

Summary

We do not collect any data through Otto: nothing reaches Los Palmos LLC or any third-party SDK. The app requires no account and contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking, and it does not use iCloud. Network requests happen only if you turn them on, and they go directly from your device to the service you chose (Open-Meteo, the U.S. Geological Survey, or your own URL), under that service’s terms. Optional device inputs, such as motion, location, and the microphone, are used only as musical inputs and stay on your device. Your device location is never sent anywhere; it never leaves your device. We do not sell your personal information.

Information the app processes

Motion and altitude. If you turn on motion inputs, the app reads motion and altimeter data from your device’s sensors live, in memory, only as musical inputs. This data is never saved, is not sent to us, and is not shared with Apple Health. Otto does not access Apple Health or HealthKit.

Location. If you allow it, the app uses your approximate location (about 1 km accuracy), including latitude, longitude, speed, and heading, only while you are using the app, and only as on-device modulation inputs. Your device location is never sent anywhere, including to us or to Open-Meteo; it never leaves your device.

Microphone. If you turn on the microphone input, the app uses only a live level and onset tap to modulate sound. Microphone audio is never recorded, never written to a file, and never sent anywhere.

Bluetooth and MIDI. If you allow Bluetooth access, the app uses it only to connect to MIDI gear. Core MIDI data goes only to devices you pick. You can change any of these permissions at any time in your device’s Settings.

Projects (stored on your device). Your projects, patches, sequences, and recordings are stored in the app’s Documents folder on your iPhone or iPad, which is visible in the Files app and included in normal device backups. Recordings are WAV renders of Otto’s own synthesizer output only. This data is not synced through iCloud, and it is not sent to us by the app, because Otto does not require a login and does not use our own backend. You can delete items at any time within the app’s Library, or delete their files in the Files app. Deleting the app removes its Documents folder from your device.

API keys and secrets (stored in this device’s Keychain). API keys and secrets you enter are stored only in this device’s Keychain. They are not synchronizable, never go to iCloud Keychain, and are left out of exports. API keys and secrets may remain on this device after you delete the app, and Otto may find them again if you reinstall it. To remove a key, empty it in that source’s settings before deleting the app, or erase the device.

AUv3 instrument extension. When you use Otto as an instrument in a host app, the extension keeps its state in the host app’s project and does not share storage with the Otto app. The extension makes no network requests and does not use the microphone, location, or the Keychain.

If you delete the app or erase your device, locally stored data may be removed unless you have a device backup that includes app data.

Network requests

Otto makes network requests only when you turn on a data source. All requests are HTTPS GET requests that go directly from your device to the services below:

Like any web request, each request lets the receiving server see your device’s IP address. How those services handle your requests is governed by their providers’ own policies, which are outside our control. Providers include Open-Meteo (see its terms, which include its privacy terms), the U.S. Geological Survey, and the operator of any JSON URL you add.

Purchases

Otto is purchased through the App Store. There are no subscriptions or in-app purchases. Apple processes the payment for the app. We do not receive your payment details. Apple provides us with sales reports that do not identify you personally.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Otto does not include any third-party libraries, analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs, and does not engage in tracking. If that changes in a future update, we will update this policy and, where required, the App Store privacy details.

Apple and system services

Your use of Otto is also subject to Apple’s terms and policies for the App Store, iOS, and iPadOS. Apple may process certain technical or usage information in accordance with its own policies, which are outside our control.

Data retention and deletion

We do not receive or retain any of your data. Projects, patches, sequences, and recordings stay in the app’s Documents folder until you delete them or delete the app. Deleting the app removes its Documents folder from your device. API keys and secrets stay in this device’s Keychain and may remain on this device after you delete the app, and Otto may find them again if you reinstall it. To remove a key, empty it in that source’s settings before deleting the app, or erase the device. AUv3 extension state stays in your host app’s projects until you delete them there. Copies may remain in your device backups (such as iCloud Backup) until those backups are deleted. Nothing is synced through iCloud. The services you connect to handle the requests they receive under their own policies. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on request, but you can contact us with any privacy question.

Children

Otto is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we should address a specific concern, contact us using the information below.

Security

We design the app to store your projects locally on your iPhone or iPad, without iCloud sync, and to keep API keys and secrets only in this device’s Keychain. No method of storage is perfectly secure; keeping your device software up to date and using device passcode or biometrics helps protect your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
