Privacy Policy

Murphy: Exploratory Synth · Last updated: October 23, 2026

This policy describes how the Murphy: Exploratory Synth mobile application (“Murphy,” “the app”) handles information when you use it on your iPhone or iPad. Murphy is designed to work without an account and to keep your patches on your iPhone or iPad.

Who we are

Murphy is provided by Los Palmos LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company (“Los Palmos,” “we,” “us”). For questions about this policy, contact us at admin@lospalmos.org.

Summary

We do not collect any data through Murphy, and nothing you do in the app is sent to us. The app requires no account and contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking. It does not use your device’s location or microphone. To shape its sound, the app can fetch weather data from Open-Meteo, a third-party service, for the coordinates you enter, and, if you choose, data from a JSON source you add yourself. These requests go directly from your device to those services, not through us. Your patches are stored on your iPhone or iPad and are not synced through iCloud. We do not sell your personal information.

Information the app processes

Motion data. If you turn on motion controls, the app reads motion data from your device’s sensors live, in memory, on your device only. Motion data is never saved, is not sent to us, and is not shared with Apple Health. Murphy does not access Apple Health or HealthKit.

Microphone and location. Murphy does not use the microphone and does not record audio. It does not use your device’s location: the app does not ask for location permission and does not use GPS.

Patches (stored on your device). Murphy autosaves your current patch and stores the patches you save. Patches include the weather coordinates and JSON source settings you entered. They are stored in the app’s Documents folder on your iPhone or iPad, which is visible in the Files app and included in normal device backups. Patches are not synced through iCloud, and they are not sent to us by the app, because Murphy does not require a login and does not use our own backend. You can delete saved patches at any time within the app’s patch library, or delete their files in the Files app. Deleting the app removes its data from your device.

If you delete the app or erase your device, locally stored data may be removed unless you have a device backup that includes app data.

Network requests

Murphy makes network requests only to fetch data it uses to shape its sound. These requests use HTTPS and go directly from your device to the services below:

Like any web request, each request lets the receiving server see your device’s IP address. How those services handle your requests is governed by their providers’ own policies, which are outside our control. Providers include Open-Meteo (see its terms, which include its privacy terms) and the operator of any JSON source you add.

Local network access. If your JSON source URL points to a device on your local network, your device may ask you to allow Murphy to access your local network. You can decline, or change this later in your device’s Settings.

Purchases

Murphy is purchased through the App Store and offers optional one-time in-app purchases. There are no subscriptions. Apple processes the payment for the app and for any in-app purchase. We do not receive your payment details. Apple provides us with sales reports that do not identify you personally.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Murphy does not include any third-party libraries, analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs, and does not engage in tracking. If that changes in a future update, we will update this policy and, where required, the App Store privacy details.

Apple and system services

Your use of Murphy is also subject to Apple’s terms and policies for the App Store, iOS, and iPadOS. Apple may process certain technical or usage information in accordance with its own policies, which are outside our control.

Data retention and deletion

We do not receive or retain any of your data. Your patches stay on your iPhone or iPad until you delete them or delete the app. Copies may remain in your device backups (such as iCloud Backup) until those backups are deleted. Nothing is synced through iCloud. Open-Meteo and the operator of any JSON source you add handle the requests they receive under their own policies. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on request, but you can contact us with any privacy question.

Children

Murphy is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we should address a specific concern, contact us using the information below.

Security

We design the app to store your patches locally on your iPhone or iPad; they are not synced through iCloud. No method of storage is perfectly secure; keeping your device software up to date and using device passcode or biometrics helps protect your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
